Students in Cheri Longmire’s class learned how important it is to keep your hands and work surfaces clean. They used “Glo-germ” lotion which glowed under a black light. The students saw where the lotion was on their hands that simulated “germs” or bacteria. Then they washed their hands with warm water and soap for 20 seconds. The blacklight showed them if they had done a great job of washing, or if there were still “germs” on their hands. Some even went back and washed a second time to get the areas they missed. After all this handwashing, we made trail mix and enjoyed using our clean hands to eat it with.
Trail Mix
1 cup whole grain, ready to eat cereal (whole wheat Chex, popcorn, oat rings)
1 cup other ready to eat grains (cereals, mini-pretzels)
1 cup dried cranberries or other dried fruit
Optional: ½ cup sunflower seeds or nuts
Place ingredients in a large bowl. Mix all ingredients in bowl with a spoon. Serve and enjoy!
