Fun with food and nutrition has been happening in Cheri Longmire’s classroom. Students have learned about food groups and the food pyramid. To learn more go to http://www.mypyramid.gov
The students have also made a large meat thermometer and posted it on the wall to remind them at what temperatures bacteria like to grow and how hot certain meats should be to be safe to eat. Go to www.fightbac.org to learn more.
Cabbage Salad Roll Up was a favorite that the students made themselves. See the recipe below to make them yourself:
½ cup chopped red cabbage
½ cup chopped green cabbage
½ cup grated carrots
¼ cup raisins
1 Tablespoon sesame seeds
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl
Salad Dressing
2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
2 Tablespoons rice vinegar
1 Tablespoon tamari or soy sauce
1 teaspoon honey
1 Tablespoon of juice from an orange
Mix all ingredients together in a bowl then pour over salad.
Take 1 spoonful of the salad and put in on a chard leaf. Roll leaf and eat!
